After three weeks of building and testing, I have an HP EliteBook 8570w Mobile Workstation that is ready for a new home or office. The HP Mobile Workstation series are designed as a desktop alternative because of their robust features. The HP EliteBook 8570w is best suited for video and photo editing, 3D modeling, CAD, or any application requiring top quality dedicated graphics that only Nvidia can deliver. This EliteBook is equipped with a Nvidia Quadro K2000M MXM graphics card with 2GB of GDDR3 memory. It is also equipped with an Intel Core i7-3740QM 2.7GHz processor with a max turbo frequency of 3.7GHz. Four physical cores with eight threads acting as logical cores, and a Smart Cache of 6MB, will multitask to get the job done quickly and efficiently. To keep the processor from freezing or stalling, I installed a matching set (2x8GB) of Corsair Vengeance high-performance RAM totaling 16GB under the keyboard, leaving two empty slots under the bottom service cover for expansion to a full 32GB. The hard drive I selected is a lightly used (4.6 TBW) Samsung 850 Pro 512GB solid-state drive (SSD) with 99% of its life remaining. The Samsung Pro Series 3D V-NAND MLC SSD’s are the fastest, most durable drives produced by Samsung. So durable, they are backed by a 10-year limited warranty, or 300 TBW (terabytes written). The MTBF (mean time before failure) rate is 2 million hours. The system loads from the power button to the desktop in under 20 seconds, and shuts down even quicker. This EliteBook 8570w Workstation is ready for work (or play)!
On the SSD, I installed genuine copies of Windows 10 Professional x64 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019. Also installed is a copy of AVG PC Tuneup with a 1-year license to keep the drive clean and running at optimum performance. All paid software keys have been recorded to a document in the documents folder. Additional software was installed to enhance performance, functionality and security. The system BIOS and hardware drivers are up to date with no driver issues, with the exception of the HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor that is known to cause issues in Windows 10, so I disabled it. The CPU and GPU cores were coated with a generous amount of Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, and the memory modules on the graphics card with fresh blue thermal pads for the best possible heat transfer. All gold contacts on the SSD, graphics card, and Wi-Fi module have been prepped with DeOxit Gold for enhance conductivity.
The HP Elitebook 8570w features an HD webcam, a backlit keyboard, a DVD-RW Multi-Drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an SD card reader, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, audio/video ports, FireWire support, and a docking station port. A dual-monitor desktop configuration can be achieved with the optional docking station, and they are less expensive than you might think. Next to the Nvidia case badge pictured is a fingerprint reader compatible with Window 10 Hello. Once it is set up, logging into Windows is as easy as a swipe of the forefinger. The EliteBook will be furnished with a genuine HP Slim 150-watt AC power adapter, a stylish case with a zippered side pocket, and a system repair disc in the event Windows fails to start.
This project took me three weeks to build and test, using only quality used parts shipped in from reputable sellers. I back my EliteBook's with a 30-day money back guarantee, and a 6-month local part and labor warranty. I stock an ample supply of parts for these, so down time will be minimal should there be a malfunction.
